Windsurfing sites in Singapore and its neighborhood
I have only been windsurfing around Singapore for about two years, so I
can't claim to be an expert on windsurfing sites, but the list below and the
related pages includes mainly neutral facts about the sites, and it may be of
some use to windsurfers new to the region.
All round and South West monsoon places:
North East monsoon places:
Changi
Beach (Singapore) |
Popular beach during North-East monsoon with car-park near the
beach. Gusty and choppy small waves, but "as good as it gets" in Singapore
during the North- East monsoon. |
ManaMana (Bintan-Indonesia) |
Nice clean beach facing South-Chine Sea and thus popular weekend
destination during North-East monsoon (both for Windsurfers and Kiters).
45 minutes ferry from Tana Merah Ferry Terminal. |
Jason Bay (Malaysia)
|
A shallow and more than 10km long beach/bay that offer side-shore
to on-shore waves during North-East monsoon (somewhat protected by the northern
cape).
About 1 hour drive into Malaysia. |
|
Desaru (Malaysia) |
About 40km south of Jason Bay in the area of Desaru, is a few on-shore
beaches. These beaches are fully exposed to the North-East monsoon.
About 1- 1.5 hours drive into Malaysia. |
|
Kuantan (Malaysia) |
Further north and thus often more wind and waves than what you get near
Singapore. Expect side-shore to on-shore during North-East monsoon.
About 4-5 hours drive from Singapore. |
North-East monsoon is normally 'on' from December to mid March.
South-West monsoon is normally 'on' from June to September.
